Fleet Laboratories is seeking a Facility HVAC Technician to understand role responsibilities and support facility operations through the experienced and knowledgeable application of advanced HVAC and electrical skills.


Basic Requirements

  • Conduct -- Represents oneself as well as the Department in a mature, professional manner.  Understands and supports company goals and objectives.  Maintains constructive, positive relationships with personnel at all levels of the organization. Engaged, self-motivated team player.  Works with little to no supervision. 
  • Communication -- Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing to keep supervisors, team members or other departments informed of problems, repair status or other issues.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform duties involving a wide range of preventative maintenance and repair to an array of HVAC-R equipment and systems.  This includes boilers; centrifugal chillers; air-cooled screw chillers; package and split systems; air handling units and filtration; walk-in and reach-in refrigeration equipment; exhaust and make-up air fans; steam and electric heating equipment; refrigeration, steam, gas and water piping; pumps and motors; various types of HVAC air distribution systems; building automation systems and controls.
  • Must be able to silver braze and solder, recover refrigerant, replace compressors and other components.
  • Must be able to attach gauges to refrigeration systems in combination with other test equipment to diagnose air conditioning/refrigeration problems and evaluate performance.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose medium pressure steam boiler or system problems.  Rebuild or replace steam traps.
  • Be familiar with TAB (testing and balancing) test equipment and procedures.  Should be able to read and understand TAB reports.
  • Using various electrical test instruments, troubleshoot and accurately diagnose electrical problems.
  • Perform a range of duties for repair, maintenance and installation of electrical equipment including controls and troubleshooting; run conduit and pull wire; size equipment services; repair or replace electrical components.
  • Knowledgeably specifies or recommends appropriate solutions, replacement parts or upgrades.
  • Understand and work with 480/208 VAC, three-phase power systems and equipment.
  • Train and lead lesser skilled maintenance personnel.
  • Performs other tasks and special assignments as requested.



  • High School diploma or GED.
  • A.S.  degree, apprenticeship, or other approved vocational or trade certificate/diploma program.
  • 5+ years of verifiable, non-residential HVAC-R & electrical experience, preferably in a lead capacity.
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Virginia DPOR Master HVAC and/or electrical license.
  • EPA Section 608 & 609 Technician Type Universal Refrigerant Recovery license.
  • Additional training on sage handling of HFC refrigerants such as RA10A & R407C
