Manager, Innovation (Lynchburg, VA)


New Product Development

The Manager, Innovation, reporting to a Senior Director, New Product Development, will lead and manage a team of chemistry formulators focused on bringing technical product development (new and improved products) to market in line with a defined product strategy. This person is an experienced leader and team manager, highly organized, analytical, and creative team player who will help drive new product development from idea identification, proof of concept, product development, testing and commercialization.  Product categories include cosmetics, OTC Monograph drugs, OTC NDAs, medical devices, and dietary supplements.  

This role will be located in Lynchburg, VA at Fleet Laboratories, a cGMP and quality-driven organization.

It requires an advanced degree in a Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences/Engineering, Medical Devices, or related and 10+ years of relevant work experience in a cGMP quality driven environment in one or more of the following areas: R&D product development or technical transfer, preferably in the personal care, dietary supplements, OTC monographs, medical devices, pharmaceutical; PhD in related science can substitute for 6 years of experience. 5 of those years managing a product development team with a proven track record of delivery of technical projects and working collaboratively across all business functions.

Among other requirements this person must have formulation expertise and understanding of raw material chemical interactions and the impact of process parameters on finished product quality and consistency; a strong understanding of the product development process from concept ideation through validation and commercial launch; experience with the application of analytical and statistical processes for commercial development of formulation art, i.e. DOE, QBD and SPC; be results oriented, entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with solid planning and organizational capabilities, a bias for action, and the capability to define, evaluate and take risks.
